Production Tracking

Learn how to record and analyze your daily production data in PoultryPro.

Production Tracking

Accurate production tracking is essential for managing profitability and making informed decisions. PoultryPro makes it easy to record and analyze your daily production data.

Daily Production Records

What to Track Daily

For Layer Flocks:

  • Egg collection (by grade if applicable)
  • Feed consumption
  • Water consumption
  • Mortality
  • Notes (weather, health observations)

For Broiler Flocks:

  • Feed consumption
  • Water consumption
  • Weight samples
  • Mortality
  • Notes

Recording Egg Production

Quick Entry Method

  1. Go to Production in the main menu
  2. Click Record Production
  3. Select your flock
  4. Enter today's data:
    • Total eggs collected
    • Grade breakdown (if tracking grades)
    • Feed consumed (kg)
    • Notes

Time-Saving Tip: Use the quick entry form for daily data entry. It remembers your last flock selection.

Egg Grading

If you track egg grades, record:

  • Grade A: Large, clean, no defects (60-65g)
  • Grade B: Medium, minor defects (55-60g)
  • Grade C: Small or cracked, for home use (<55g)

Example daily record:

Flock: Jan 2026 KARI Layers
Date: 2026-01-27
Grade A: 85 eggs
Grade B: 12 eggs
Grade C: 3 eggs
Total: 100 eggs
Feed: 12 kg
Notes: Hot weather, increased water consumption

Feed Tracking

Recording Feed Consumption

Track feed daily to:

  • Calculate feed conversion ratio
  • Monitor for waste or theft
  • Reorder stock on time

Best Practice: Record feed at the same time each day (morning or evening).

Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR)

The system calculates FCR automatically:

For Layers: FCR = Feed consumed (kg) ÷ Egg production (kg)

  • Target: 2.0-2.5 (meaning 2-2.5 kg feed per kg eggs)
  • Kenya average: 2.2-2.8

For Broilers: FCR = Feed consumed (kg) ÷ Live weight gain (kg)

  • Target: 1.8-2.2
  • Kenya average: 2.0-2.5

High FCR Warning: If your FCR is consistently above 3.0, investigate:

  • Feed quality issues
  • Health problems
  • Feed wastage or theft
  • Incorrect measurements

Production Analytics

Egg Production Rate

Formula: (Eggs collected ÷ Bird count) × 100

Kenya Layer Benchmarks:

  • Start of lay (18-20 weeks): 5-20%
  • Peak production (24-32 weeks): 80-90%
  • Mid-cycle (33-52 weeks): 70-80%
  • Late cycle (53-72 weeks): 60-70%

Identifying Low Production

If production drops below expected:

  1. Check feed: Quality and quantity adequate?
  2. Review health: Recent illness or stress?
  3. Examine environment: Temperature, lighting, ventilation?
  4. Consider age: Natural decline in older flocks?

Seasonal Patterns

Track seasonal effects on production:

  • Hot season (Jan-Mar): May see 5-10% drop
  • Cool season (Jun-Aug): Usually stable
  • Short rains (Oct-Dec): May see stress-related drops

Best Practices

1. Record Daily

Don't skip days. Missing data makes trend analysis impossible.

2. Record at Same Time

Consistency helps identify patterns. Choose morning or evening and stick to it.

3. Note Abnormalities

Always add notes for unusual events:

  • Weather extremes
  • Health treatments
  • Feed changes
  • Visitor disturbances

4. Review Weekly

Spend 10 minutes each week reviewing trends. Early detection prevents bigger problems.

5. Cross-Check Inventory

Monthly, compare egg production records to sales records. Should match closely.

Common Issues

Issue: Production Below Target

Possible Causes:

  • Poor quality feed
  • Disease or parasites
  • Heat stress
  • Insufficient water
  • Old age (>72 weeks)

Solution: Investigate systematically using elimination method. Start with easiest (water, feed) before assuming disease.

Issue: Inconsistent Production

Possible Causes:

  • Feeding schedule inconsistent
  • Light schedule disrupted
  • Frequent disturbances
  • Health issues

Solution: Establish strict routines. Birds thrive on consistency.

Mobile App Features

PoultryPro's mobile-optimized interface lets you:

  • Record production from anywhere (works offline)
  • Take photos of issues
  • Set reminders for daily recording
  • View quick summaries

Pro Tip: Keep a phone or tablet in your laying house. Record production immediately after collection - most accurate method!
